The Review:
On this journey I was out driving around on one the first nice Minnesota spring Saturdays of the year. It was a sunny and a balmy 70 degrees at 10:30 in the morning. To me this was perfect weather for a Bloody Mary, then again any type of weather isn’t good Bloody Mary weather?
With the Lowry we called ahead and got on their waiting list, which we found was well worth the 30-second convo. When we arrived there was quite a line and we were able to get seated fairly quickly. Which was good because the rest of the gang was starting to get a little hangry (angry hungry, for the rookies out there) and a Bloody was definitely in order ASAP. Upon sitting down we immediately wished for a new spot. Even though it was a nice window seat we also had the magnifying effect of the window, which made us feel like toy soldiers under a magnifying glass. It was HOT! No matter what I was on a quest for a Bloody and the heat wasn’t going to slow me down. I ordered one and it was promptly delivered within minutes. I noticed right away that the chaser wasn’t the typical light beer and turned out to be a Minnesota staple, Summit EPA. I was already pumped, if this establishment knows how to beer back their Bloody, they surely have their shit together.
The Bloody presentation itself was perfect. Nothing too fancy but had a nice bit of class by adding a fancy cheese. I later found out it was called Cotswold Cheese. A combination of garlic, finely aged sharp cheddar and chives. As you will come to find cheese is my favorite food group. This one was new find for me and I am now a BIG fan! It was a great addition to a skewer that I appreciated. The rest of the skewer was fairly standard and included a pickle, lime and olive. I really admired the overall classiness and simplicity of the skewer with this Bloody.
Once I got over the simple yet awesome skewer, I was on to the Bloody Mary itself. The mix was their house blend, which was a “secret” so they wouldn’t share it with me. It was really good. It was more on the savory and side of life with some spices and pepper. Overall it was much more savory than spicy and really offered no heat which was still all right in my book. The pairing of the Bloody, skewer and beer chaser combined for a great breakfast libation experience. I was really impressed with simplicity that made it so great. I would definitely recommend picking one up especially if its before 10 a.m.. I hear that there's a happy hour for Mimosas and Bloodies if you can drag yourself out of bed.
I’d give it a 3.5 out 5 pickles. It was a great overall Bloody Mary with its simplicity. However it didn’t blow me out of the water and didn’t have a crazy good skewer or mix. It was just a great spot to grab brunch and a Bloody on a Saturday morning.
Now a quick rundown of the food. I was in the mood for some biscuits n gravy and the ones at the Lowry did not disappoint. They mixed in sausage with their gravy along with scrambled eggs. The biscuits were soft and airy. Not heavy, which paired well with the gravy. I also want to give a nod to the Nutella waffle. I heard it’s fantastic if you’re in the mood for a sweeter breakfast.
Overall I’m a big fan of the Lowry and would strongly recommend stopping in for a Bloody or the full meal combo if you’re looking for a good bunch spot.
