The Review:

On this journey I was deep behind enemy lines on vacation in Wisconsin. Apparently cheeseheads know how to make a good Bloody so I thought I might as well give it a go while I’m there. Who knew things would turn out the way they did. So the story wouldn’t be complete without the set up which will all come together, so, just you wait.

I was out for a run in the afternoon making room for the Bloody that was soon to follow in the evening. As I turned a corner I looked down at the road to see what appeared to be a gift card. So I stopped, grabbed it and opened the envelope to find destiny. In my hands I held a $10 Sobelman’s giftcard!! For those of you who don’t know Sobelman’s they are the world famous Bloody Mary bar. You may have seen pictures of a Bloody Mary with a whole fried chicken in it? Yup. This is the place! I was shocked, this had to be fate and I needed to get home ASAP so I could go fulfill this destiny.

So I ventured to Sobelman’s and sat down eagerly anticipating one of their famous Bloodies. I was handed a laminated card that had several different options for Bloodies including their Classic, Masterpiece, Bacanado, and Cheese Head. Through careful considerations and a few coin tosses I decided on the Bacanado, because… I mean… BACON!

I waited eagerly for them to deliver the masterpiece and of course the waitress dropped of the beer chasers first. Frickin Miller Light! Killin me smalls! Finally it arrived and WOW, she was beautiful. A skewer of just bacon wrapped, jalapeno cheese curds towering out of the mason jar mug. The other skewer lying horizontally had cheddar cheese, shrimp, beef stick, olive, pickle spear, and tomato. Also marinating in the Bloody was a celery stock and asparagus spear. “What a Bloody” is all I had to say before I grabbed for the bacon wrapped cheese ball. I took a bite and it was nirvana! Delicious jalapeno cheese with the smoky bacon was out of this world. I could have eaten an entire appetizer of just those! I dove into the rest of the skewer. It was all top notch. The Shrimp was gigantic and delicious; somewhat surprised it was so darn good!

They did have something I’ve never seen before and that was a wooden spoon to help stir up the Bloody and keep it uniform. That’s a nice little addition that won’t go unnoticed when it comes to the rating.

Once I had conquered the skewer I was ready for the actual drink portion of the Bloody Mary. I wanted to solve the big question, “is it all looks with the skewer and a weak with the mix?” I took and sip and BAM. It was better then expected! Very, very savory with some nice heat at the end. I honestly could have a Bloody with out the fixin‘s and been ok. I asked the waitress if they had some special mix and she said “nope” its just Jimmy Luv’s mix and some Lea Perrins Worcestershire sauce. I knew then I had to pick up a bottle of this magical mix and bring it home to make on my very own!

Ok enough about MY Bloody Let me take you on a quick review of the other two beauties that were brought to the table. I had the option to go with the Masterpiece, Bacanado or the Cheese Head… and actually there’s a monster Bloody that has a whole friend chicken on it too as I previously mentioned above. I‘m saving that one for a special occasion for when I return. Anyways, My girflfriend and her brother got the Masterpiece and Cheese Head, which arrived equally as awesome as my Bloody.

The Masterpiece had much of the same skewer fixin‘s except there was a whole slider, which was cooked to perfection with a fluffy buttery bun, bacon, and cheese atop a patty. A good choice on her part but I still preferred mine.

Now her Brother Charlie ordered the Cheese Head, which had the same relative fixin‘s EXCEPT there were 4 wedges of “Bacon Cheese Crack” yes they called it Bacon Cheese Crack. They were deep fried cheese bites with bacon mixed in. They were nothing short of spectacular. Crispy on the outside yet cheesy and gooey with bacon bits on the inside. Literally slices of heaven. SOOO good in fact that I may have ordered just a plate of these. However I stand by my Bacanado decision and do not regret it.

After the storm was over and the eating and drinking had settled I sat back in my chair and tried to take it all in. “DAMN YOU WISCONSIN!” I thought. My hometown Bloodies don’t compare to this. Wisconsin clearly has been doing it for a while and knows their shit aka the wooden stir spoon. But still it kills me to say it and I wish it wasn’t published in writing now. But, Wisconsin knows how to make a really good Bloody Mary. So its with a heavy heart that that I’m writing this… but I have to give this bloody a 4.5 out of 5 pickle rating. Yes almost perfect. It was just so damn good. The skewer was phenomenal and along with the mix combination. The only thing I really could have asked for was a better beer chaser!

So if you ever find yourself lost or forced to visit Milwaukee be sure to take the trip to Sobelman’s for a Bloody Mary that’s an out of body experience. I just wouldn’t recommend admitting that you went to Wisconsin for an amazing Bloody Mary.
