The Review:

On this Journey I found myself searching for the elusive mini donut Bloody Mary. I arrived at Icehouse with high hopes and the recommendation of the “Bloody Homer”. Upon ordering I had to stop. There were several other Bloodies on the menu that tempted me including the "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" (Gin Bloody), "Bloody Lisa" (Veggie Bloody) and "Bloody Laphroaig" (10yr bloody?). I stayed strong and opted for the “Bloody Homer” which of course was accompanied by a mini donut and strip of bacon.

The skewer was everything a bacon lover would hope for. Perfectly candied bacon with a fresh mini donut on top and as a bonus, sprinkled on the mini donut were bits of bacon. The combination of the two was fantastic and well played. It didn’t stop there; the actual Bloody Mary was a blast of savory bacon deliciousness followed by a slight kick at the end. I was really impressed with how they were able to blend the savory flavor of bacon and tomato to a point where it was just a touch sweet leaving you with some heat. Also, there were even bits of bacon in the Bloody Mary itself which brought the whole drink together. Overall, I would give it a 3.5 out of 5 pickles. Mostly because they didn’t serve it their famous “duff” mason jar. Also a good beer chaser could have been a nice play. In my eyes a good bloody has to have excellent presentation, skewer, taste, and chaser. All of these things must be top notch in order to really get close to a 5 out of 5 pickle rating.

If the Bloody Mary wasn’t enough, the brunch food locked me in. I ordered the Brisket Hash, which was described to me as massed potatoes with meat. Well, when the plate came out it was not at all what I pictured. It had a similar shape to a pancake with a toasted top. Once I dug in, I hit brisket nirvana. The brisket was cooked well and very tender while the toasted potatoes with cheese made for a great crust. The overall combination of gooey cheese, brisket, potatoes and green Chile made for a delightful brunch. While I was skeptical at first my mind was changed and there was no way I was leaving a speck of food on my plate after the first bite.

Overall Icehouse is worth the trip if not for the drink meal combo, at least go for the Bloody. I would strongly consider heading back to Icehouse even if its for a nice little Afternoon Bloody.
